My old pair had finally gotten so worn out they wouldn't maintain a firm grip on anything, regardless of what it was so I decided it was time for a new pair. The new pair isn't half the performer my old ones were. Instead of a bolt and nut they're held together with a peened rivet, and even brand spanking new the jaws are loose fitting like the rivet didn't get enough of the last hammer impact. As soon as I saw the rivet it was instant disappointment and dissatisfaction. They say Made in the USA on the side but they're not what I've come to expect from the quality and performance of American made tools. I'm sorry, but I will not buy another Channellock product. Vice-Grip brand locking pliers are no longer manufactured in Nebraska, but they're still better performers than anything from AutoZone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly's, or any other retail tool source that don't function as designed, especially one handed. They all require two hands to open, adjust, close to lock except for the true Vice-Grip brand. Even tho they are now manufactured in China, they still work better than any of the others except for Irwin which are the elite as far as I'm concerned. They're top shelf!
Works on odd size items that don’t require lots of torque. Fork caps on vintage motorcycles can be odd sizes and these pliers don’t leave any marks on them. Much better than most other options
Call me crazy, but I will pay a little more to buy American and keep folks at work over keeping folks in China at work.I bought 2, and was surprised at the poor quality control in allowing semi-rough edges on what are supposed to be smooth Jaw surfaces (on both).I took a flat metal file and filed the edges down in a few seconds, BUT I expect better from the Channellock brand, and for the price.Other than that, I am pleased with my purchase.
Product does not open to 1-1/2 nut size. Product advertised on Amazon as 10" but pkg says 9.5. Hard to return as not sold by Amazon. Very disappointed
This is my second set. The first was lost during a recent move.I have both straight and channeled versions of these pliers, which I use regularly.
