1 1/2" jaw capacity stretching it a bit. Realistic 1 1/8". Really nice plastic covered handles. Tool id needs a deeper stamping. Well made USA tool at a fair price.
They're Channellock's bread and butter, their namesake, but these have a unique feature they call SAFE-T-STOP. The lower jaw interacts with the thick ridge along the slide joint which keeps the handles from touching and thus should keep you from pinching your fingers. A problem I've never personally had but I've heard others have before. I'm not sure why they only offer it on this one specific size, but if that's something you want, it has it.As for adjustability, that's where I have to take off a star. This thing has so few positions! Only 4 positions which seems low for 8" tongue and groove pliers, though I suppose the flip side is keeping the overall profile a bit more narrow. It's worth a shot, the stopper feature is unique among Channellock offerings of regular 400-series pliers, I just wish it had more options for positions.
I originally bought the HF Chinese knockoff of these same pliers, but quickly found that they sucked. Very poor alignment and they would bind badly, so I promptly returned them and repented of my sins. For a few dollars more I bought these U.S. made Channellock 428 pliers which quickly brought a smile to my face. That's what happens when someone is redeemed of their sins. I love these pliers! Compact enough to fit in my truck tool roll and they operate as smooth as silk. I've had two other sets of Channellock pliers for decades (420 curved jaw and 440) and they're easily my favorite pliers. Channellock pliers will last a lifetime and never let you down. Don't settle for the cheap HF Chinese option, these pliers will bring you happiness.
Chuck is a good brand and this was a great value on this wrench
